The letter by Nelson Ogunshakin OBE, the Executive Director of FIDIC

Dear colleagues!

We would like you to read the letter by Nelson Ogunshakin OBE, the Executive Director of FIDIC, on the results of the FIDIC Infrastructure Conference on the Mobility and Smart Infrastructure, which took place on September 9-11 in Berlin, Germany, to its participants.

Geneva, 21 September 2018

Delegates of the FIDIC International Infrastructure Conference, Berlin 2018

Onwards and upwards after FIDIC Berlin 2018 conference

On behalf of the FIDIC board, I’m writing to thank you for attending this year’s FIDIC annual conference in Berlin. Judging by the feedback we received both at the event and since delegates returned home, the conference was extremely well received by delegates, many of whom remarked that it was amongst the best FIDIC events they have ever attended.

I am pleased that so many of you enjoyed the event and also took the time out while you were in Berlin to wish me all the best in my new role as chief executive of FIDIC. It is a role that I am proud to hold and I relish the challenges ahead as we work together to make FIDIC a stronger and more effective organisation that is fit for the future.

The conference in Berlin discussed some of the key issues facing the industry and I know that the discussions both inside and outside the conference hall will have added to your understanding of the challenges and opportunities that our industry faces as we grapple with a changing business landscape.

The conference sessions on the future of infrastructure, the digital economy, smart cities, digitalisation, funding, urban sustainability, transport and the future leaders’ perspective on what our industry will look like going forward were all fascinating. You can view all these sessions online so you can share the conference deliberations with colleagues or simply watch again. Click on the link  to watch all the sessions from the two days of conference.

We have also made available via the FIDIC Facebook page photographs from the conference and also the social events that were organised. If you’d like to view those and maybe see whether you can spot yourself or colleagues in Berlin, then click on the link below to see our conference photographs.

As a delegate to FIDIC Berlin 2018 you should already have received our feedback survey from our conference organising partners, K.I.T. Group. If you have not already done so, please take the time to complete the short survey. Your opinion matters to us and contributes to the continuous improvement of the conference and helps FIDIC to plan future events.

Speaking of other events, we have a number of useful events and workshops taking place over the next few months that you may be interested in attending. These include our major FIDIC International Contract Users’ Conference 2018 taking place in London on 4-5 December, also the Second FIDIC Latin America Contract Users Conference in Panama on 2-3 October and the Fourth FIDIC Africa Contract Users’ Conference in Johannesburg on 30-31 October. For full details of these and all our other events please visit the Training and Events section of the FIDIC website.

Of course, one key event that you won’t want to miss is next year’s FIDIC International Infrastructure Conference which takes place in Mexico City from 8-10 September 2019. Continuing the future-gazing approach of Berlin 2018, at our conference in Mexico we will turn our attention to how technology is revolutionising the way companies and the industry conducts its business. Make sure you put the dates in your diary now!

Once again, many thanks for supporting this year’s FIDIC conference in Berlin. The event would not have been the success it was without your input and participation. I am keen to continue that participation in the months ahead and look forward to keeping you informed about FIDIC’s work, initiatives and events.

Given the opportunities that are out there, the potential for FIDIC and our industry is enormous. I look forward to working with you to grasping those opportunities and realising that potential. Your input will be most welcome as we look to ensure that we build a FIDIC organisation that is the best that it can be. With your help, I know that we can be successful.

With best wishes,

Dr Nelson Ogunshakin OBE

Chief Executive, FIDIC
