In March 2024, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and JSC \u201cUkrainian Railways\u201d signed a memorandum on joint action for preparation, implementation and evaluation of the project \u201cFeasibility study of increasing the capacity of Odesa \u2013 Izmail – Reni railway section in Ukraine\u201d and consequent restoration and development of railway infrastructure. The feasibility study is planned to be funded with grants from the South Korea.<\/p>\n
Yet, delivery of the following stages of design and construction of the alternative route for cargo transportation from Odesa to the Danube river ports will need additional co-financing.<\/p>\n
The project covers reconstruction of the Zatoka bridge and infrastructure upgrade along the entire route including the ports of Izmail and Reni in Ukraine, Giurgiule\u0219ti in Moldova and Gala\u021bi in Romania.<\/p>\n
Ukrainian Railways is interested in cooperation to attract the additional co-financing for the project of increasing the capacity of Odesa \u2013 Izmail – Reni railway section after the feasibility study is completed. Commencement of work with the help of Korean partners is an important milestone.<\/p>\n
