Korean experience for Ukraine’s reconstruction: ICEG joins discussion of new community development models

July 2, 2026

Representatives of the Public Union “Interstate Consultants Engineers Guild” (ICEG) took part in a business meeting with a delegation from the Republic of Korea. The participants discussed modern approaches to implementing reconstruction projects, infrastructure development, and introduction of new models for quality changes in territorial communities.

The meeting became another step in the development of the Korea-Ukraine professional partnership in the fields of engineering, infrastructure, and post-war recovery.

The discussion focused on the Interregional Smart Village Platform concept, a comprehensive model of community development that integrates housing, transport, energy, production, and social infrastructure into a unified system.

In fact, it is about a modern international approach to reconstruction, that emphasis shifts from individual construction projects to the holistic development of territories, creation of economic opportunities, and improving the quality of life in communities.

During the meeting, ICEG presented its vision of the Ukrainian engineering community’s role in future international reconstruction projects. The discussion covered not only involvement of Ukrainian companies in specific initiatives, but also application of modern approaches to the preparation, organization, and implementation of infrastructure projects in compliance with global best practices.

The meeting participants paid particular attention to the prospects of engaging Ukrainian engineering, design, and consulting companies in joint Ukrainian-Korean initiatives.

They stressed that a successful delivery of future projects will require combining international technologies and investment with the professional expertise of Ukrainian companies, which have a deep understanding of the local context, regulatory framework, and specific features of implementing infrastructure projects in Ukraine.

This meeting continues the long-term cooperation between ICEG and its Korean partners. It should be noted that in March of this year, ICEG received a delegation from KOICA, YOOSHIN Engineering Corporation, Korean Transport Institute, and Korean National Railway. At that time, the parties discussed opportunities for cooperation in preparing a feasibility study for a high-speed railway project in Ukraine.

For Ukraine today, it is increasingly important not only to attract international financing, but also learn from practical experience in implementing complex infrastructure projects. It is these professional contacts that form the foundation for future cooperation between Ukrainian and international stakeholders of the reconstruction process.

Fostering the partnerships with international professional organizations, engineering companies, and specialized institutions remains one of the key sectors of ICEG’s work. These efforts are aimed at bringing modern approaches to infrastructure project implementation to Ukraine, developing professional expertise, and building long-term cross-border partnerships in the field of reconstruction.
