The Vice Presidents of ICEG, Svitlana Reva and Dmytro Barzylovych, participated in an event on June 19 dedicated to analyzing Israel’s energy ecosystem – Israeli Energy Tech All-Stars ’24.
“The map of Israel’s energy sector presented at the event could be valuable for Ukrainian companies,” highlighted Svitlana Reva.
According to the presented data, over 300 companies operate in Israel’s energy sector, creating opportunities for business interaction. These companies range from renewable energy to smart grid management, energy storage, energy efficiency, waste-to-energy technologies, hydrogen, and carbon emission reduction. This platform allows for analyzing and tracking the development of startups. It was jointly developed by Ignite The Spark, Start-up Nation Central, and the Israel Export Institute.
Specifically noted the 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel.
“The first few days were complete chaos, it was chaos across the entire country. There are times when innovation is like second base, but when war broke out, we prioritized innovation. We brought people from various departments together and asked how innovation could help. Our people repaired the power grid under fire. No one had ever dealt with such frequent power outages and the number of missiles flying overhead. Our innovation unit began operating like a startup. Employees needed work, and the people of Israel needed energy. So, we developed equipment to protect our personnel,” recounted Gilli Haizler, Head of Global Innovation at an Israeli electric corporation.
“We finally realized that we are not prepared for extreme events. To effectively manage all these challenges together, we must prioritize the principle of decentralization. This includes electricity generation, particularly solar energy, and energy storage! Energy should be accessible in every hospital, home, and military base. It’s not solely about large power plants. We require a system of micro-management and innovative smart grid technologies to establish an independent energy system,” noted Galit Cohen, Head of the Climate and National Security Program at The Institute for National Security Studies.
At the same time, Jason Wolf announced that this period marked an understanding of the need to support startups in the country. This led to the creation of the Iron Nation initiative, which provides financial support to Israeli startups during terrorist threats to ensure their survival, preserve jobs for their teams, and foster company growth.
The event was organized to foster close contact between investors and business representatives, with a strong focus on the EU’s energy transition by 2050.
Additionally showcased on the platform were the following Israeli startups:
