Remote construction technology from Japan

August 6, 2025

Last week, the team of the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine had a meeting with a delegation of the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, representatives of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine and Japanese companies. The meeting was dedicated to engaging new solutions in the construction sector, namely, remote construction technology, which is especially relevant in view of the current security situation in Ukraine.

The remote-controlled construction technology invented in Japan enables operators to connect to heavy construction equipment via a network and control its actions from anywhere in the world.

“Such innovations can help us reintegrate veterans into civilian life, provide decent jobs for people with disabilities, offer flexible employment opportunities for women on maternity leave, and also guarantee that vocational school alumni will have the opportunity to operate cutting-edge equipment. This is a way toward an inclusive and technological future of Ukraine,” the Ministry for Development informs .

The Ukrainian side also noted it would be beneficial to install an electronic simulator in the State Enterprise “Training Center for Training, Retraining, and Advanced Training of Personnel,” where students operating heavy construction equipment could undergo special training. In the framework of the Japanese-Ukrainian cooperation, our partners from Japan intend to supply the simulator to Ukraine and equip the first temporary operation center as early as this fall to demonstrate the practical use of modern building solutions based on remote operation.

The meeting is part of collaboration between our countries based on the Japan-Ukraine Platform on Infrastructure Technologies for Reconstruction and Revitalization (JUPITeR) and can be viewed as preparation for a massive presentation of the Japanese technology for remote construction in Ukraine.

As a reminder: the Japan-Ukraine Platform on Infrastructure Technologies for Reconstruction and Revitalization (JUPITeR) was launched in January 2025, aiming to involve Japanese technology and expertise in Ukraine’s recovery efforts. The initiative includes cooperation in the field of transport infrastructure, housing construction, logistics, and the restoration of critical infrastructure facilities.
