Meanwhile, the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development has held a meeting with representatives of diplomatic missions, international governmental and non-governmental organizations to discuss the energy system situation in Ukraine, specifically in Kharkiv region. Representatives from Kharkiv city were also present and told other attendees about the condition of energy system in the region after a heavy missile attack by Russia on March 22. The strikes resulted in over 200 thousand people in the region left without steady electricity supply. The region also experiences issues with district heating and sewerage.
Oleksandr Kubrakov, Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development and Vice Prime Minister for Ukraine recovery, says “The Ministry’s team jointly with local authorities have developed an action plan to enable one of the biggest Ukrainian cities to function in a regular manner. The plan provides for decentralization of energy and heat generation capacities. The region already has six CHPs installed and operating, and some more are needed. An alternative network is being analyzed, which is gas turbine power plants and mobile boiler houses. We understand the demand and the required capacity. We count on assistance from our partners with that, it is crucial not only for Kharkiv to survive but also for Ukraine. I am grateful to Mr. Ole Egberg Mikkelsen, Ambassador of Denmark to Ukraine, Mr. James Hope, USAID Ukraine mission director, Mr. Satoshi Sugimoto, JICA resident representative in Ukraine for taking part in the meeting and to all international partners for their comprehensive aid with recovering Ukrainian regions.”
