According to the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, the Swedish Government has presented its Strategy for recovery and reform cooperation with Ukraine for 2023–2027, with a total of SEK 6 billion (over USD 500 million). It has become Sweden’s largest-ever bilateral development assistance programme.
“The private sector is the most important actor in the reconstruction of Ukraine. It is important for us to attract foreign investment, involve international companies in reconstruction projects and expand cooperation with Ukrainian businesses. We highly appreciate Sweden’s commitment to invest SEK 6 billion in Ukraine’s economic development and bring us closer to victory. This is the first comprehensive multi-year strategy to support Ukraine adopted by our partners. The funds will be used for rebuilding infrastructure, green development, entrepreneurship, trade, demining, and media. We also welcome the fact that the Swedish government will encourage large companies to enter and develop in Ukraine,” said Yuliia Svyrydenko.
The implementing agencies on behalf of Sweden are the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), the Swedish Institute (SI) and the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA).
For reference: Since Russia started the full-scale war, Sweden has provided support to Ukraine totalling around SEK 22 billion (over USD 2 billion). Also, in the first half of 2023, Sweden held the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, where one of the aims was sustained and strengthened support for Ukraine.
