The Ukraine-Japan partnership in infrastructure recovery and energy sector development is gaining momentum. Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) has declared it is ready to support large investment projects in Ukraine aimed at modernization of the construction complex, development of green energy, industry, and logistics.
During a meeting in Tokyo, Oleksii Sobolev, Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, and leadership of JBIC discussed employment of Japanese technologies, financial instruments, and investments in upgrading of Ukrainian enterprises and developing the industrial and construction complex.
Special attention was paid to establishing a specific loan facility with extended risk insurance that will allow financing large-scale energy and infrastructure projects. It envisages supply of state-of-the-art Japanese equipment including accumulators, gas turbines, and power electronics, and also transfer of technologies for localized manufacturing at Ukrainian enterprises.
Prospective areas of cooperation include construction and reconstruction of logistics and processing hubs, cool storages for agriculture, as well as implementation of projects related to energy efficiency and environmentally friendly technologies. Such initiatives will encourage the formation of a modern engineering, transport, and production infrastructure in Ukraine.
Additionally, the parties discussed providing technical aid for reforms in public-private partnership which opens new opportunities for Ukrainian building companies, engineers, and designers.
The Ministry of Economy has underlined that JBIC confirmed its willingness to support large investment projects in Ukraine, especially in the fields of green energy, industry, logistics, and infrastructure development.
According to ICEG’s representatives, “support of large investment projects in construction and energy sector by international partners, including JBIC, is another incentive to restoring the infrastructure and developing innovative technologies in Ukraine. It creates new opportunities for Ukrainian engineers and enhances the quality of construction and energy projects.”
