As a result of the Russian war of aggression, from 2014, the environmental situation in Ukraine has been aggravating, primarily the issue of safety in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov, river and underground water contamination, mine flooding in the occupied territories, etc. Destruction of Kakhovka Hydropower Plant was one of the severest disasters of recent time. Consequently, studying and introducing the European approaches to preservation and protection of the environment is one of the burning areas of activities for the Ukrainian engineering community.
The European Federation of Engineering Consultancy Associations (EFCA), where ICEG is an active member, keeps the environmental matters on the agenda all of the time.
Recently, the journal BUILDING SERVICES ENGINEERING has published an article by Sue Arundale, EFCA Director General, called “Tackling water resilience in Europe – the practical and the political.” The article highlights EFCA’s priorities and vision of the consulting engineers function, that have solutions to some of the gravest problems, as well as a range of political risks and challenges in the way of adopting the harmonized European solutions.
“Without wishing to make readers depressed, the consequences of not taking action are unthinkable and the time is now – as soon as the post-election shuffling of people and positions has finished. EFCA will continue to talk about the Blue Deal and is nurturing its partnerships with other federations and NGOs at EU level to ensure that any action is co-ordinated and the pressure maintained,” Ms. Arundale noted.
We offer our readers this article in English and translated into Ukrainian.
