ICEG experts participated in a roundtable discussion on aligning terminology in the construction industry with the modern requirements of Ukrainian spelling.
The discussion was initiated by the National Institute for Infrastructure Development (SE “NIDI”) following the completion of the transitional period for the implementation of the new Ukrainian spelling rules.
As the speakers noted, there is an urgent need across all spheres of public life to explore possible ways of aligning terminology with the requirements of the new Ukrainian spelling rules. In addition, it is important to harmonize the rules of terminology formation, standardization, and regulation of Ukrainian scientific and technical terminology in regulatory acts, building codes, and national standards in the construction industry.
The roundtable was attended by representatives from the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, the he State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development, key construction organizations, technical standardization committees, and other relevant experts.
ICEG emphasizes the importance of clear terminological definitions in regulatory acts and normative documents, particularly in light of the need to implement European legislation and Ukraine’s Eurointegration development. At the same time, new terms should not contradict the definitions provided in acts of higher legal force to avoid collisions and issues in legal application.
ICEG analyzes current legislative norms, including efforts to refine definitions, resolve conflicts and gaps, and diligently works towards harmonizing the existing model of engineering and consulting services market to globally recognized industry standards.
